Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small community which is situated on the West Island, which is an island in Montreal. This West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a vast section that extends from Lachine up to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time within the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. Her first ambition was to become a performer, but she grew beyond her dancers. In an article from the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. Once I had outgrown my male counterparts, I resigned. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement of one of her drama teachers from high school that inspired her to pursue acting. Her teacher recommended her to audition to play the character of Anne in their annual school production. After trying out it, she was cast as the leading lady of Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Fine Arts in 2000. Since then, she's appeared in 60+ productions both with big screen and smaller ones. The most notable was her fame when she was offered the role as Rita on the award-winning TV show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in the season 1 and only appeared on occasion.
